On Thursday April 24, SAMS will be attending the National Day of Prayer in the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.  The event runs from 6:30PM to 8:30PM, and will also kickoff the Franklin Graham festival.  We will not have our regular Thursday night meeting on the 24th.

Those of us who attended last year (from Fellowship it was basically SAMS and Our Father’s Heart) will remember the spirited prayer, lively worship, and a sense of unity in the Christian community.  Please plan in advance to join us on this dedicated to honoring the One who holds our country in His hands.

Did you know that the two most important beliefs that determine how we live our lives are: (1) Who we believe God is, and (2) Who we believe we are? Would you like to grow in your knowledge of who God is? Would you like to grow in your fear of God combined with love for God?

For the past several months in our Sunday morning SAMS meetings, we have been looking at different aspects of God’s character. Beginning on Sunday morning, March 9th, in Room 604, we will continue this emphasis by beginning a six-week video series by pastor and teacher R.C. Sproul on the “Holiness of God.” Early in my Christian walk I read the book on which this video series is based, and it greatly impacted my life. Later I watched these videos, and my life was again changed. Come to these meetings expecting God to reveal himself to you in a powerful new way. Your life will never be the same!

All of us have family members, friends, fellow workers, or others we know who don’t yet know Christ. We know that Christ has called us, as his disciples, to be witnesses for him to those around us, but most (if not all) of us probably feel unequipped to do this. Beginning on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm, February 21st, in Room 602, we will begin a new series designed to better equip each of us to share the Gospel in a natural way with those around us. This eight-week course is called “Becoming a Contagious Christian.” It utilizes video clips by Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, and a Participant’s Guide (which will be available for purchase at the meetings for $1.00). In this course, together we will learn about:

  • God’s heart for the lost,
  • The different styles of evangelism,
  • How to build relationships with unbelievers,
  • How to tell our story (prepare our personal testimony),
  • How to present the Gospel,
  • How to lead a person across the line of faith,
  • How to practice the steps of relational evangelism, and
  • How to respond to common objections.

Come and join us for this important study on how to become more effective disciple-makers for Christ by introducing others to Christ.

We know that it is the Lord’s will for people to have a mate if they desire one. In the beginning when God created Adam, God Himself made this statement:

“… It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help mate for him” (Genesis 2:18 KJV).

“Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, completing) for him” (Genesis 2:18 Amplified).

The Lord wants to bring a mate to those who will ask Him and have the patience to wait for His choice.

There are some single people who are constantly out looking for a mate, and they are miserable because God has not sent them one yet. They have prayed and prayed, yet they still have no mate. Some settle for Satan’s provision instead of asking God for the patience to wait for the one whom He would send. If they would look to Jesus and seek to please Him, rather than being concerned about a mate, soon they would find the right one crossing their path. Looking for a man or woman to just keep them from being lonely or just to fill their needs or to be a father or mother to their children should not be the only reasons for desiring a mate. They also need to be concerned about what kind of husband or wife they would be for a mate. These single people are still much in the flesh if they just want their own needs met. They should ask the Lord to fill them with His love and peace. Continue Reading »

by Jon Walker“Let us agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other.” Romans 14:19a (Msg)If you have children, you’ll know exactly what I mean: Some days you look into their faces, and you see the attitudes of angels; on other days you want to scream, “Why can’t you just get along!” as they get into a cyclical argument about who moved a toy 1/32nd of an inch.Sometimes these opposite attitudes shift back and forth six times in five minutes! But let me ask you this: Do you think God ever looks at us – we adults; believers in community together – and he sighs, saying, “Why can’t my children just get along?’” Continue Reading »

Everyday life consists of considerable amounts of thought-provoking, life-altering decisions and, if the truth were told, at times it can be downright exhausting. In fact, amongst the most complex decision you may face is the challenge of having to choose a mate, most notably the right mate.

Discerning the “right mate” is a genuine challenge that Christian singles are faced with and even after much prayer and consultation, you inevitably must be capable of discerning whether or not this person is in fact the right mate for you. Probing questions you should begin to ask yourself include, “What qualities are important to you? Do you share the same spiritual, moral, social, and economic values?” The answers to these questions must be determined before pursuing a relationship.
